Android Wear is always the same, to some extent, but typically also adapted somewhat by the different makers of Android Wear smartwatches. After all, there needs to be some differentiation – and preferably, including in the intended use…
Casio Outdoor Apps
The Casio ProTrek Smart WSD-F20 becomes quite clearly a ProTrek when looking at the apps provided by Casio.
For one, these are for outdoor data, the other, for position data – and in between, with a dose of oddity, for outdoor activities.
Casio “Tool” Apps
The “simple” Outdoor Apps of the ProTrek Smart are its “Tools”, which can be reached via the button labeled that way. They can also be set up in the “Moment Setter+”-App on the connected smartphone.

The screens of those show:
- Compass
- Altimeter
- Barometer
- Sunrise-/set
- Tide Graph
- “My Graph” (with different data, basically producing an activity profile)
Activity
For various outdoor activities (hiking, cycling, fishing, paddling, snow sports) there is also the “Activity”-App for recording them and to deliver data on various goals and stuff. I’m deliberately putting it in such a strange way because some of the possible functionality is, in fact, quite strange.

Just watch the video for examples…
Location Memory
The “Location Memory”-App from Casio, finally (set up to be reached by pressing the lower button) records one’s position – once it has been activated to do that, either every minute or every six minutes – to create a timeline of a day, similar to the timeline one can find in Google Maps. (If you have found it and use it there…)
You could say that it produces your own personal tracking profile.
So, depending on how you want to interpret that:
Welcome to the (self-)observation society – or to a tool that finally improves journaling digitally and makes it possible to add location data to otherwise random photos (if you know how you can use it for that).

All apps – Tools, Activity, Location Memory, but also alarm, timer, stop watch and whichever you decide to install – can be reached by pushing the middle button of the Casio ProTrek Smart…

…and further apps are what we should have a look at.
